While reading the Two Minutes Hate scene in the novel, I was struck by how truly disturbing and grotesque the whole situation really is. The Party has warped the minds of its members to the point that they all turn into animals, even Winston who has been a seemingly normal man in a strange world finds himself participating along with the mob. It is striking to me how much the members of The Party are brainwashed and the Two Minutes Hate brings new meaning to the phrase mob mentality to me.
