I have to say that I am struck by how utterly moving this novel is from the very first pages. It is hard to read what Valentino goes through from his time at refugee camps to his misfortunes upon coming to the U.S and not wonder how he stays so relatively positive through all of his troubles. As a reader I must say that I truly admire this man and think that it is sad that he has to go through so much in order to have some semblances of a happy life.
